Baobab is a tree that grows in the tropical regions of Africa and produces a fruit with high antioxidant properties. It has been used for medicinal purposes to treat such ailments as fever, asthma, malaria and smallpox. Most recently baobab superfood powders, like this one from Kaibae, are making it easy to get your dose of vitamin C, calcium, potassium and dietary fiber by mixing it into smoothies, baked goods, soups, etc. And the company has been nice enough to offer a medium size bag to one luck reader (valued at $18)!
Kaibae is organic, gluten-free, GMO free, vegan, nut-free and kosher and offers numerous health benefits including increased energy, anti-aging properties, immunity boosts and digestive regularity. The company also practices ethical and sustainable sourcing, helping to provide revenue for improved education and healthcare in Northern Ghana where the fruit is harvested. Not only are you doing good for your body, but you’re helping others as well – that’s a win-win in my book!
So how do you enjoy Kaibae powder? Using the recipe section of their website as a guide, I decided to try this powder first in a simple drink consisting of 2 TBSP of baobab powder, a glass of cold water and a splash of agave. It dissolved easily and had a nice mild citrus flavor, no chalkiness or weird aftertaste. I can see adding this to my morning routine to give myself a nice supply of energy to start the day.
Since I’m a huge fan of smoothies, I figured I would give Kaibae a whirl in my afternoon fruit smoothie. I blended up 2 TBSP Kaibae with almond milk and frozen strawberries, bananas and mangoes. Again, it didn’t add any sort of weird flavor or mouth feel, just dissolved wonderfully into my concoction giving me piece of mind that I was giving my smoothie a huge health boost!
