Sunday Funday: Hillcrest Farmers Market

You know you’ve reached a certain level of maturity when going to the farmers market is your idea of Sunday Funday. Even more, I have been looking forward to going to this particular market in Hillcrest all week! Rumor has it that it’s one of the best in San Diego county and if that wasn’t reason enough, I really wanted to check out Anthem Vegan who serves up delicious vegan fare there every Sunday.

Life Update: A New Chapter

There has been a lot of change in my life over the past year and a half. Divorce, losing a job, moving, starting a new job, another breakup…it’s been challenging to say the least. I’m happy to report now though that I’ve come out of the other side of the tunnel and settled into the next chapter of my life. Which in a nutshell means I can start to focus on this blog again!

Sunday Funday: Vegan Market Haul

Look, I’m going to be straight up with y’all – this particular Sunday Funday actually happened on a Saturday. I know, I know – how could I?! But the simple truth is Saturday doesn’t have any clever rhymes that portray an awesome weekend day spent doing random fun things. Let’s focus on the positive here: a better version of a Santa Fe Chicken sandwich.

I came across an adorable nail polish company at Natural Products Expo this year called Piggy Paint. They started as a non-toxic nail polish for kids, but this year at Expo they debuted their brand new adult line called SOPHi and were kind enough to let me try it out along with their PRIME + SHINE + SEAL System! Now one lucky reader can try it out too!

Strawberry Spring Mule Cocktail

I’m a huge fan of Moscow Mules for a couple reasons. One – vodka (duh). Second – ginger. And third – my best friend and her husband introduced them to me when they came to spend the weekend a few years ago and we had a blast drinking and talking throughout the night. So the Mule conjures up special memories for me. But in celebration of Spring, I wanted to put a twist on the classic cocktail.

Southern Fried Tofu

My mama is from Texas. If you listen closely you can still hear the twang when she says things like “oven” and “lawyer”. We like to tease her about it. Her mother, my grandma, was a round, squishy woman with a bad ass attitude who smelled of cigarette smoke and Juicy Fruit gum, but man she could cook up a storm. Growing up I remember her making huge meals filled with butter, lard and fried…everything.
