Wow…another week has flown by and it’s time again to sit and ponder the past 7 days over a deliciously refreshing cocktail. This one may be a little dangerous because it doesn’t taste like alcohol at all, more like a yummy sparkling punch. Combining the flavors of raspberries, blood orange, basil and the Aćaí Spirit from VeeV this drink tantalizes your tastebuds.
I’m still clinging to the last few days of summer with this concoction, especially since it’s still warm here in Lalaland. Served cold, this is the perfect way to cool off when the temperature won’t give you a break.
I came across some sparkling blood orange juice in Trader Joe’s and knew it would be a great base along with the VeeV for this drink but wanted to add a couple more layers to it. I continued to stroll around TJs and came across the fresh berries, I was hoping to find blackberries but they didn’t have them. Raspberries were my second choice so I grabbed those. Some sort of fresh herb was necessary to finish this off and I was in the market for some basil anyway so that was the winner.
Adding the fresh ingredients gives this drink so much depth while still keeping it light. I started by muddling the raspberries and basil in the bottom of the glasses, which looked incredibly pretty, almost like Christmas (but let’s not even start thinking about that yet!).
I’m such a huge fan of muddling now. After making my cilantro mojitos a couple weeks ago I just wanted to muddle everything. It’s a great stress reliever.
This is the perfect drink recipe to make a big pitcher of for a party or summer picnic, but I’m the only drinker in the house so I kept the portions small this time around. It’s usually no fun to drink alone, but this was so yummy I didn’t really care. Me a lush? Probably.
I’ll say it again, the colors were so gorgeous in this drink – pink, red and green, it made me happy just to look at it (or maybe that was just the alcohol)…In any case, mix yourself up one or two of these Spritzers and have a wonderful weekend!
